It’s probably not a surprise that I am a big fan of Jill Greenburg – and for those of you who haven’t heard the latest poltiical drama involoving one of the worlds top photographers check out her site at www.manipulator.com. Click to enter, go to names and click on “John McCain” – I’m not condoning or condeming – I think it’ll be interesting to see how this plays out.

I am working on a “political” ad campaign at the moment – though not nearly as harsh as the above mentioned. I’ve attached the first shot for your viewing.

New Shoot and Nice Weather

Posted in Shoots with tags , , , , , , on September 7, 2008 by Derek Gibbs

The cooler weather has been great lately. After 5 days in almost 90 degree weather walking miles upon miles following convention protestors I was pretty warn out – now that we’re in the 60’s and 70’s it definitly helps with productivity. With Fall quickly approching I am trying to do as many outdoors shoots as possible. If you, your company or your band are looking for promotional photos drop me a line while we have good weather!

With the Democratic National Convention finally in the bag I have just completed a rough cut of the photo essay I did on the entire week – so look for that coming soon right here. With my extra time now I had a chance to finally edit more photos from recent shoots. Not too much else to tell you about so for today we’ll leave it at that.

Downtown Denver – Under Seige!

Posted in Photo Essay, Shoots with tags , , , , on August 26, 2008 by Derek Gibbs

Today was a pretty low key day for the most part. I met up with the protest groups at Civic Center park and photographed the rally and the march through the 16th street mall to the Federal Court House and saw the mock waterboarding – that was definitly intense.

After that I called it an afternoon and headed home to recharge and grab lunch. I headed back out to Civic Center park at 3pm to catcht he concerts and it was a really slow afternoon so I headed back home. 6pm came and I had heard people were meeting up then so I headed out to check it out and not too much was going on so we decided to walk down the 16th street mall and it was quite there too. I headed into the Walgreens as I neeed a couple things. On my way out we were going to hop on the free mall ride but just as it pulled up security informed us that all busses and trains were being shut down due to an emergency. One of the bicycle police teams we heard yell they were on their way to 15th and Tremont so we ran that way to catch up just in time to ingest a little tear gas and confrot the SWAT team and riot squads. Photos from today below!

Democratic National Convention – Pre Protests

It’s definily been a crazy, busy day. I start at about 8:30 this morning with the rally at the Capitol Building which is just a few blocks from where I live in downtown Denver. After that I marched with the protestors to the pepsi center taking photos the whole time – I actually even showed up on Fox News! After the Pepsi Center I walked home and took a break already having about 20 gigs worth of photos I went back out and was just about to call it quits when another group tried to take controll of the broadway and colfax intersection and ended up spending another hour photographing. I put in about 8 hours today and am exhausted but as promised here are some of the highlights

More Photos – Count Down to DNC!

2 more photos for your viewing pleasure. I have been shooting non-stop for the last month or so – almost so much that I don’t have time to edit anymore! I don’t anticipate that trend to end either. With September quickly approaching I am almost booked until the 2nd week in October. The Democratic National Convention is only 2 days away too. I had to clean 50 gigs off of my hard drive tonight in anticipation of all the photos from there. Look for updates nightly starting Sunday with the first protests and continuing throughout the week.
