Lately I’ve been dabbling in new styles. Here are some shots from recent, some outtakes, rough edits, etc. I would love some opinions as I continue to try to diversify myself and find new styles and techniques. It’s definitly fun trying stuff I haven’t done yet – or in a long time and use skills I’ve sharpened to do things I’ve done before but can now do better. It’s a constant learning processes!

More KYGO Portraits
Posted in Head Shots, Photo Essay, Shoots with tags Democratic National Convention, Jolly Joe, KYGO on August 4, 2008 by Derek GibbsMan, it’s sure been hot here in Denver. After my 2 weeks in Chicago with the humidity I got back to Denver and thought that the 100 degree heat here was a much needed improvement from the 100 degree heat with 100% humidity there – but the dry heat is now starting to get to me.
As well as still editing KYGO Portraits I’ve been doing more work on the Jolly Joe essay and it’s coming along quite well. I spent about an hour with him yesterday listening to stories.
There are only about 3 weeks left for the DNC to arrive in Denver – Look for photos of that toward the end of the month. I plan on spending all 5 days shooting around the Democratic National Convention, hopefully I won’t end up in any riots!
Take Care!
Head Shots
Posted in Head Shots, Shoots with tags Head Shot, KYGO, Studio on July 29, 2008 by Derek GibbsEditing, Editing, Editing. At least it’s not as hot inside as it is outside – that makes me not mind sitting at a computer. Nothing new to report – just trying to keep this updated as often as possible because it’s harder than it looks.
Couple head shots for your preview! KYGO Morning Show Producer Garret Doll!
Jolly Joe
Posted in Photo Essay, Shoots with tags 90 years old, Glenn Miller Orchestra, Jolly Joe, Multimedia, Music, Photo Essay, Piano on July 27, 2008 by Derek GibbsI’ve been keeping pretty busy with scheduling, brainstorming and making calls – almost too busy in fact. I, However, did have the opportunity to hang out with Jolly Joe Svozil on Thursday afternoon and evening. It’s always great to hear him play. Him and his recently found “Brother” (by choice, no relation) Steve, Joe and I visited a piano near Cherry Creek in Denver that they wanted to check out and to give Joe some play time. I’ve attached some photos from the day. It’s so crazy to sit next to a man who has been around so much – being a part of the Glenn Miller Orchestra, playing with Sinatra, Dino, Benny Goodman, Elvis, and countless others. I should be wrapping up the multimedia presentation soon, so stay tuned for a link to that.

Posted in Travel with tags Travel on July 19, 2008 by Derek GibbsBoy, I sure don’t miss the humidty in Illinois! The 93 degree weather today in Denver didn’t feel as hot as I grew up knowing 93 degrees to be. I’ve been busy doing a lot of post processing on old shoots and other miscelanous things so unfortunatly I don’t have any photos today. I, however, will be attending Progressive Motion Presents Battle of The Bands – which I am a sponsor of – at cervantes this sunday for a few hours in the evening, so if you happen to be reading this and plan on being there as well make sure to stop by and say Hi!
Denver Bound
Posted in Photo Essay, Shoots, Travel with tags Brookfield Zoo, Chicago, Gorillas, Photojournalism on July 13, 2008 by Derek GibbsToday is my last day in Chicago as I wrap up my summer vacation with the parents. All in all it was a restful break from the grind. I’m excited to get back to work on a few projects I have lined up including continuing progress on Jolly Joe and a behind the scenes look at a local pro wrestling organization as well as a story on a very interesting local non-profit.
Attached are photos from a recent trip to the Brookfield Zoo. Enjoy.
